To Case-Lot or Not To Case-Lot?

As the case-lot sale for Smiths looms near and some of you are chomping at the bit to start your shopping, I wanted to point out something, which is actually a question I have gotten asked several times before: Is the case-lot sale the best time to stock up? Is it the best deal?

I think the best way to stock up is to pick up a bit at a time, when something is on sale and practically free. Little by little you will build up your food storage/pantry and spend very little. Here's a good example, which you will see posted again in the Walgreens line-up tomorrow morning:
Hunts Tomato Sauce is regularly priced $0.99 at Walgreens. If you use the in-ad-coupon you will only pay $0.39/can. But wait, there's more! You will also be eligible for a $5 Easy Saver rebate (#29 in the ESR booklet) wyb $10 (limit 1). Buy 11 cans w/ in-ad coupon (since the rebate calculates off the original price) and you can stock up on tomato sauce for FREE after coupon and rebate!

Hopefully this helps you put sales into a new perspective. If the case-lot sale has some good deals to be had, great! But don't wait to start taking advantage of deals and coupon match-ups, maybe even at a drugstore. Happy shopping!

Great pointer! This is when it is SUPER important to know your rock bottom price for an item (a price book helps with this!).

Two years ago I bought beans by the case because they were $.20/can cheaper than any sale I'd seen (now I'm cooking and freezing my own b/c my has the can price sky rocketed!). But last year, I didn't find anything cheaper at all.
